Growth in the region was strongest in retail, accommodation and construction. The strong economy in Canterbury sees unemployment at just 3.7 percent at the end of 2016. With such a strong labour market, the region is attracting national and international job seekers across all sectors, particularly construction, high-value manufacturing and IT.
